Jeni began her career at the Human Development Report Office working on the 1991 Report and the first National Human Development Report, for Bangladesh in 1992. Since then, she has held a range of positions at the World Bank, focusing in particular on Africa, Europe and Asia. Her most recent position was as Lead Economist for Ethiopia and Sudan, where among other responsibilities, she led the Sudan Joint Assessment Mission. Prior to that she was the Lead Economist for the Poverty Group where she was closely involved in the conceptualization and launch of Poverty Reduction Strategy Papers. She has also worked as an economist focusing on human development in Europe and Central Asia where she helped manage poverty, labour market and social protection programs.
Jeni has also completed a number of consultancies, including with UNICEF, the ADB in Manila, and the World Institute Development Economic Research at UNU (WIDER). Jeni holds a PhD in Economics from the Australian National University. She also has an M.Sc in Development Economics, as well as a graduate law degree, from Oxford University.
