2009 Human Development Awards for Excellence Winners

HDRO/UNDP

This year’s contest was very competitive. The process involved several stages – nomination of candidates, internal and external review. Comments were received from several external reviewers – namely Sabina Alkire, Director, Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative; Enrico Giovannini, former OECD Chief Statistician; Hernando Gomez Buendia, Academic Director of the UNDP Virtual School for Latin America and the Caribbean; Professor Alberto Minujin, Graduate Program in International Affairs, The New School; Professor Frances Stewart, Oxford University; Jan Vandemoortele, UNICEF advisor and former UNDP Poverty Group Leader; and Insill Yi, Commissioner of Statistics, Korea.

A Special Recognition for the inclusiveness of the process in addressing responses to HIV/AIDS was also endorsed for: Swaziland 2008 - HIV/AIDS and Culture

These awards will be presented to a representative of each winning team at a ceremony hosted in Busan on 26 October 2009. This ceremony will be held as part of the second global NHDR Meeting and the third OECD Forum on Statistics, Knowledge and Policy.
