I am pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Jeni Klugman of Australia as the new Director of the Human Development Report Office in New York.
Jeni has had a diverse career at the World Bank where she has been working since 1992 as an economist, focusing in particular on Africa, Europe and Asia. Her most recent position was as Lead Economist for Ethiopia and Sudan, where she led the Sudan Joint Assessment Mission. Prior to that she was the Lead Economist for the Poverty Group where she was closely involved in the conceptualization and launch of the Poverty Reduction Strategy Programme approach. She has also worked as an economist focusing on human development in Europe and Central Asia where she helped manage poverty, labour market and social protection programs.
Jeni has also completed a number of consultancies, including with UNICEF, the ADB in Manila, the World Institute Development Economic Research at UNU (WIDER), and with the Human Development Report Office in UNDP in New York.
She has had a large number of books, paper and reports published, on topics ranging from poverty reduction strategies and labour markets to health reform, education and decentralization. Jeni holds a PhD in Economics from the Australian National University. She also has an M.Sc in Development Economics, as well as a graduate law degree, from Oxford University.
Please join me in welcoming Jeni in her new role as Director of Human Development Report Office, New York. She will assume her duties in mid-August.
