The 2009 Human Development Awards for Excellence
The biennial Awards programme seeks to publicly recognize the contributions of National and Sub-national Human Development Reports to development policy and practice in countries and regions, and to inform general HD discourse through innovation and good practices. It is also an occasion to honour an individual who has significantly advanced the cause of human development with the Mahbub ul Haq Awards.
In 2009, the Awards Ceremony will be held in Busan, Korea, on the occasion of the OECD 3rd World Forum on Statistics, Knowledge and Policy, on 27-30 October 2009. A one-day global meeting of Human Development Report teams and focal points will be organized on 26 October, followed by a proposed programme of seminars for NHDR teams at the World Forum.

Professor Frances Stewart, Director of the Centre for Research on Inequality, Human Security and Ethnicity (CRISE), at Oxford University’s Department of International Development.
Among many publications, Frances Stewart is coauthor of UNICEF’s influential study, Adjustment with a Human Face (OUP 1987); War and Underdevelopment (OUP 2001); and editor of Horizontal Inequalities and Conflict: Understanding Group Violence in Multiethnic Societies (Palgrave, 2008). She has directed a number of major research programs including several financed by the UK Government’s Department for International Development, and others by the Swedish Development Agency and the Carnegie Corporation.
