The governance of Caribbean SIDS for sustainable development is a big challenge. Besides nature human behavior puts a lot of pressure on the development. Phenomena like earthquakes (Haiti 2010) and hurricanes are examples. But also the raising of the sea level and scarcity of water due to climate change are serious threads. But to often the issue of sustainability is reduced to “Planet” issues, putting the issues related to “People” and “Profit’ on a second level.
The objective of the UNESCO chair are: “To become an open center of collaborative excellence in the field of policy-oriented research on issues of Sustainable Development of SIDS in the context of globalization of the Caribbean, leveraging on the unique insights that can be provided by knowledge production processes based on participatory research, involving stakeholders in the Sustainable Development of SIDS.”
To discuss related issues and to share best practices this scientific conference is being held. We invite scholars to submit a paper for presentation. Propositions for Panels and Round Tables are also welcome. The tracks are:
The conference will be held during the famous carnival season. As part of the programme participants will attend the three most important parades. In this way they will be part of the experience economy and the creatives economy of the Curaçao.
