Nomination Procedures

The nomination and selection procedure for the awards was organized around three level of decision-making: First UNDP Office were asked to nominate reports that best meet the established criteria; Second the nominated reports were reviewed by an Intermediate Judging Panel made up of UNDP staff members; and Third a Final Judging Panel made up of eminent development scholars and practitioners, selected the winners.

The panel included:

  • Princess Basma Bint Talal of the Jordan Hashemite Fund for Human Development
  • Kwesi Botchwey of the Center for International Development at Harvard University
  • Moisés Naím, former Venezuelan Minister of Trade and Industry, and Editor of Foreign Policy
  • Gita Sen of the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore
  • Joseph Stiglitz, winner of the 2000 Nobel Prize in Economics, of Columbia University
