Nomination Procedures

Nomination forms can be completed by anyone associated with the HDR. All national and regional HDRs published between June 2004 and December 2006 were eligible for awards. Each national report could be nominated in up to two categories. Regional reports were only eligible for the regional award category.

The nomination and selection procedure for the awards is organized around four steps.

  • The first step is to complete the nomination form provides an opportunity for HDR teams or country office staff to describe how the nominated report meets the established criteria and the ways in which it is an example of outstanding achievement. The nomination form is an important source of information for the judges, and considerable care should be taken in completing it.
  • In the second step HDR teams send 10 copies of the nominated report and select supporting material to the NHDR Unit in New York (c/o 2007 HD Awards).
  • In the third step the nominated reports are reviewed by an intermediate judging panel made up of UNDP staff members.
  • In the fourth step a final judging panel of eminent persons, development scholars, and practitioners selects the winners.
