ID21: Development Research Reporting Service
ID21 is an initiative of the UK government Department for International Development (DFID) and the Institute of Development Studies,
University of Sussex. It aims to provide access to a searchable database of recent (under 2 years old) UK based research
relating to all aspects of development studies, including economics, education, health, poverty and gender issues. Items
indexed include: conference papers, research reports and news stories. It is possible to sign up to receive email updates.

The Global Site is maintained by the University of Sussex and provides access to a wealth of full text materials and documents
relating to 'the interdisciplinary challenges for social science in the global era'. These include classic texts, from key authors
such as Karl Marx, journal articles, political commentary on current affairs, lists of forthcoming conferences and previously
unpublished research papers and articles. The 'First Review' section includes reviews of books and websites. All material is
vetted by an academic editorial board whose members include faculty staff from the University of Sussex. The site is arranged
thematically with sections which include: Marxism, democracy and civil society, development, the environment, globalisation,
anthropology, international relations, political philosophy, war and peace. There are also sections for geographical regions

Asian Development Outlook
This site from the Asian Development Bank offers the full-text of the latest edition of the Asian Development Outlook as well
as back-issues to 1996. 41 countries in the Asia and Pacific region are covered with an analysis of macroeconomic conditions,

The Centre for Policy Dialogue is a think tank based in Bangladesh. It focuses on economic and social issues relating to

Human Rights Watch: Publications

This site provides access to full text electronic versions of a growing collection of postgraduate theses submitted at Australian
universities. The project is coordinated nationally by the Council of Australian University Librarians and aims to cover all national
universities and academic subject areas. At present it provides access to materials from the late 1990s to date and from universities
which are members of the consortium, a full list of which is available from the site. The database may be searched by author, title,

This web site provides access to two free databases: Bibliography of Africana Periodical Literature and the African Women's Database.
They contain over 40,000 references taken from 325 journals published from 1974 to the present day. Material has been compiled by
David Bullwinkle, Institute for Economic Advancement at the University of Arkansas. Users may search by author, title, geographical

British Library of Development Studies at the University of Sussex: Bibliographic Database
This bibliographic database contains the online version of the library catalogue and journal articles database, as well as on-line
resources. The catalogue contains all items added to the collection since 1987 and a selection of journal articles, on all aspects
of Development Studies, which have been added since 1990. The database is fully searchable by author, title, subject and periodical

UNBISnet is a bibliographic database maintained by the UN Dag Hammarskjod Library. It contains the catalogue of all UN documents
and publications indexed by the Library and the Library of the UN office at Geneva. It includes: Index to resolutions, treaties and
documents from the General Assembly, Security Council and Economic and Social Council. Also available are voting records from the
General Assembly from 1983 and the Security Council from 1946 onwards, index to speeches made in the Security Council, Economic and

The Development Experience Clearinghouse is maintained by the United States Agency for International Development. It provides

Jubilee Research: Supporting Economic Justice Campaigns Worldwide
Jubilee Research is supported by the New Economics Foundation. It is the successor to the Jubilee 2000 programme. It conducts
research and disseminates information on international debt, poverty in developing countries, global trade and finance. Its

United Nations Population Information Network: POPIN
POPIN co-ordinates the dissemination of governmental and non-governmental population information, providing access to a wide variety
of information and data resources. It has an extensive electronic library with links to bibliographies, working papers, online
journals and reports relating to all aspects of population and demographics worldwide. There is a large section of statistical
data which includes access to recent editions of World Population Prospects and comparative figures on world population trends

Scout Report
The Scout Report is a weekly report issued by the University of Wisconsin which provides commentary on a selection of Internet
sites relevant to the social sciences, arts and humanities. It includes research, general interest and sites with teaching
materials. It is especially strong in providing links to current awareness sites as it includes a section for sites which are
in the news. Topics that have been covered in the past include the Asian financial crisis, German parliamentary elections,
US mid-term elections and the Iraq weapons inspection crisis. The report also includes links to the full text of recent documents
and working papers issued by US think tanks such as the Brookings Institution, Rand and the Cato Institute. It is possible to sign

ELDIS: Electronic Development and Environment Information System
Eldis is a gateway to resources relevant to the study of development issues and the environment. It provides an index of resources including library catalogues, bibliographies, research projects, e-mail discussion lists and organisations relevant to the area. They include direct links to sites available on the Internet and descriptions of paper only archives. The site can be searched by subject key word. There are also subject guides for over 60 topics including: gender and health, development aid, development programmes and the Asian financial crisis. Fathom: Online Learning
Fathom is a new electronic knowledge and interactive learning site which is being developed by the London School of Economics in collaboration with a number of other leading academic institutions including - The British Library, The University of Michigan, Columbia University, New York Public Library and Cambridge University Press. It covers a wide range of subject areas from the social sciences, pure sciences and humanities including topics as history, international relations, law and politics, health, medicine and business and finance. It is arranged in a number of Knowledge Trails which provide access to interviews, short papers and lists of recommended readings on a particular theme. Users have to register to use the site. Access to the basic papers, editorials and interviews is free of charge, many materials, including the online courses, require payment.

JISCmail - National Academic Mailing List Service
JISCmail administers the main UK academic email discussion lists. (Prior to Novermber 2000 this service was known as Mailbase) These are useful to researchers as they often distribute information on new Internet sites, recently published books, forthcoming conferences and job vacancies. They can also be used to seek information and ask questions about particular subject fields. Lists are available for the full range of Social Science subjects, including Economics, Politics, Sociology and history. Users can search for lists on particular subjects. This site contains the full text of a guide on how to cite Internet sources in academic papers.
