3rd Latin American and Caribbean Conference on Human Development and the Human Capabilities Approach: Furthering Agency, Empowerment and Democracy

Furthering Agency, Empowerment and Democracy

Call for papers

 The Organizing Committee of the III Latin American and Caribbean Conference on Human Development and the Capabilities Approach kindly invites academics, researchers, post-graduate students and professionals working in diverse areas (public policy, civil society organizations, etc.) to submit paper proposals to be presented during the 2010 conference.

The conference will take place during 11 and 12 of November 2010 at the Pontifical Catholic University o Rio Grande do Sul, Porto Alegre, Brazil.

 

Guidelines for the submission of proposals

Paper proposals must include a summary up to 500 words explaining the relationship to the CA, the methodology, the objectives of the paper and three key words.

Deadline for the proposal submission is July 15th, 2010.

The authors of the accepted proposal will be notified via email by August 30th, 2010

 

Guidelines for the Full paper submission

The full paper must have up to 15,000 words, three to five keywords, name, affiliation and contact information

Deadline for the full paper is October 10th, 2010.

 

Areas of Investigation within the Conference

The 1st conference of ALCADECA was held in Mexico City, Mexico, in July of 2006; the second one was in Montevideo, Uruguay in 2008. For this third conference we hope to have contributions that examine the CA as a way to understand the problems of the region, focusing on five broad areas of interest:

1) Empowerment and Agency

2) Poverty and Inequalities

3) Public policies and rights

4) Democracy and autonomy

5) Normative and philosophical issues

We welcome both theoretical works that expand the reach of the CA and applied works that focus on its adaptation to the Latin American and Caribbean situation.

 

Languages of the Conference

The conference languages will be Spanish, Portuguese and English.

Limited funds will be available to aid some presenters in attending the conference. For solicitation of funds, we will require final versions of papers to be sent before September, 15th, 2010.

Request for financial assistance (if relevant) should be done in the conference website.

The conference will take place on November, 11th, 12th, 2010, in Porto Alegre, RS, Brazil and It will be  organized by the Economic development Program - Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul and the:
