Concepts, Measures and Policies for a Development Paradigm Second Edition

These essays trace the evolution of the human development approach from its first formulation to the present day. The book provides a lucid illustration of global measures to address human poverty, security, and welfare aspects. Health, wellbeing, and development are the basic tenets of this volume. It brings together papers from the most distinguished economists in the profession. This edition includes a new chapter by Gustav Ranis, Frances Stuart, and Alejandro Ramirez on economic growth and human development.

The book is divided into three sections:

• conceptual foundations comprising classic papers by Sen,Haq, and Streetan
• measurement which discusses the methodology for constructing the human development index and other aspects such as political freedom, gender inequality and poverty
• policy explorations which includes a collection of articles from previous reports
