Why isn't the HDI compiled for all UN member countries?
While the data in the Report demonstrate the wealth of human development
statistics available, they also reveal many data gaps in basic areas of human
development. Not all UN member countries have sufficient data available to
calculate the HDI or other indices. However, for the 17 UN member countries not
included in the HDI in HDR 2007/2008, basic human development indicators (where
available) are shown in 
Table 1a HDR 2007/2008 [44 KB].
