The Human Development Index (HDI) and its related indices (Inequality Adjusted HDI, Gender Inequality Index and Multidimensional Poverty Index) have emerged as the preeminent ranking system for measuring international development. The Human Development Report Office is organizing this meeting to consider how best to improve these indices: how can we make them conceptually stronger, more statistically robust and easier to use by policy makers, advocates and the media? The meeting will play a major role in advancing UNDP’s thinking about human development measurement and a significant contribution to the growing international conversation about how best to measure progress.
