Human Development Data

Global, regional, and country/territory-level data on key dimensions of human development, with interactive insights and publications. What's inside

Human Development Index (HDI)

The HDI is a summary measure for assessing long-term progress in three basic dimensions of human development: a long and healthy life, access to knowledge and a decent standard of living.

Country Insights

An interactive data visualization summary of achievements in human development for 191 countries and territories, across human development indices including the HDI and complementary measures that estimate gender gaps, inequality, planetary pressures, and poverty (covering developing countries).

Thematic Composite Indices

The human development composite indices have been developed to capture broader dimensions of human development, identify groups falling behind in human progress and monitor the distribution of human development. In addition to the HDI, the indices include Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI), Inequality-adjusted Human Development Index (IHDI), Gender Inequality Index (GII), Gender Development Index (GDI), Planetary pressures-adjusted HDI (PHDI) and Gender Social Norms Index (GSNI).

Thematic Dashboards

In addition to the composite indices, statistical dashboards have been developed to consolidate multiple indicators to evaluate progress of human development by highlighting levels and changes of various indicators. The latest HDR features five colour-coded dashboards covering five topics: quality of human development, life-course gender gap, women’s empowerment, environmental sustainability and socioeconomic sustainability.
