The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) says Malawi and other developing countries need to be vibrant in requesting support from richer countries to help them in adapting to climate changes.
According to a report by the UNDP, by 2015 climate conditions are expected to change by two percent which will put an immerse pressure to poor countries especially in the Sub-Saharan Region where Malawi is located.
The report says this will result in heavy devastation of trees and other environmental issues in the region.
"The region is particularly vulnerable to climate shocks such as droughts, floods, and storms that will become more frequent and serve," reads the report.
In addition, the report explains that solutions to the situation lie in national governments planning and commitment.
However, it notes that wealthy countries have failed to meet their obligations regarding the issue.
"When global warming changes patterns in Africa, it means that crops fail and people go hungry or that women and young girls spend more hours collecting water… they will have to walk further for water as well as firewood, deal with agricultural production and care for HIV/Aids victims and orphans," reads the report.
UNDP Country Resident Co-ordinator Michael Kitten, said climate change is a cross cutting issue which poor countries need to find solutions with a call to richer nations for intervention.
"Richer countries should support developing countries to cope up with problems arising from climate changes," said Kitten.
