United Nations Climate Conference

Poznan, Poland
1-12 December 2008

From 1-12 December 2008 the City of Poznan in Poland will host the United Nations Climate Conference, a major forum that brings together the COP14 (the 14th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), along with the 4th Session of the Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol.

The Human Development Report Office exhibit entitled One Planet, One Chance will be present at the event.

See the campaign website.

One Planet, One Chance is an exhibit on the topic of climate change, and is located in Hall 5 of the Poznan International Fair, Poland. Part of the campaign surrounding the 2007/2008 Report, this exhibit presents startling facts and figures of climate change and allows visitors to visualize the different impacts that countries have on global CO2 emissions.

The exhibition is entirely inspired on the Human Development Report 2007/2008 – Fighting climate change: Human solidarity in a divided world. Climate change is the defining human development challenge of the 21st Century and failure to respond to that challenge will stall and then reverse advances in human development and undermine international efforts to alleviate poverty. The poorest countries and the most vulnerable citizens will suffer the earliest and most damaging setbacks, even though they have contributed the least to the problem.

The exhibit is open to the public from 1-12 December 2008.

The Poznan Conference is organized by the Secretariat of the UNFCCC and hosted by the Government of Poland. It is envisaged that the two-week session will be attended by 8,000 participants: more than 190 government delegations headed by ministers for the environment or climate change, international institutions, environmental, business and research non-governmental organizations, and the media.
