Jeni Klugman, Director of the Human Development Report Office (HDRO), led a consultation on developing key themes for the 2011 Human Development Report in Nairobi. The consultation was organized in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). Klugman led discussions on sustainability and human development with participants from the UN and the World Bank.
In coordination with the Human Development and Capabilities Association, HDRO held a consultation on sustainability and human development in Amman. HDRO staff were joined by academics, other UN colleagues, and civil society representatives. The consultation opened with presentations by Jeni Klugman, Director of HDRO, and Francisco Rodriguez, Head of the HDRO Research Team.
Working with UNDP’s Country Office in Mali, HDRO organized an informal consultation on themes related to the forthcoming 2011 Human Development Report in Bamako. Milorad Kovacevic, HDRO Head of Statistics, and Paola Pagliani, HDRO Policy Specialist, represented the HDRO and began the discussion with a presentation on sustainability and human development. More than 200 participants from West Africa participated in the consultation.
HDRO and the Human Development Report Unit of UNDP’s Asia-Pacific Regional Centre organized a consultation about the forthcoming 2011 Human Development Report. Participants from academia, various UN agencies, government officials, and national Human Development Report teams attended the event. Jeni Klugman, Director of HDRO, gave a presentation before the discussion commenced.
HDRO held a consultation in partnership with the Dubai School of Government in Dubai. Francisco Rodriguez, HDRO Head of Research, opened the discussion with a presentation entitled Human Development Report Trends and Integrating Sustainability and Inequality in the Human Development Framework. An open discussion amongst invited representatives from the UN, Government of the United Arab Emirates, academia, and think tanks followed.
HDRO in cooperation with the United Nations Association of Germany held a consultation entitled “Human Development: Vulnerability and Sustainability”. The consultation took place at the UN Campus in Bonn with participants from the UN, the Government of Germany, universities and think tanks. The meeting was opened by Beate Wagner, General Secretary of UNA Germany, followed by a presentation by Francisco Rodriguez, HDRO Head of Research. An open discussion followed.
HDRO held a consultation on the key themes of the 2011 Human Development Report with the UNDP’s Executive Board at UN Headquarters. Jeni Klugman, Director of HDRO, began with a brief presentation on the 2011 Report, and an open discussion with Representatives from UN Member States followed.
HDRO held its first Academic Advisory Panel consultation in New York. The Academic Advisory Panel is comprised of leading human development thinkers who offer their advice and expertise on the research and writing of the Human Development Report. Jeni Klugman, Director of HDRO, and Milorad Kovacevic, HDRO Head of Statistics, gave presentations that were followed by open discussion.
HDRO partnered with the University of California at Berkeley to hold a consultation on the key themes of the 2011 Human Development Report. The discussion was divided into five segments: Opening Session and Concepts, Concepts and Measurement, Disequalising effects of unsustainable development, How Inequality can worsen sustainability, and Political Economy and Policy challenges. Presentations by Jeni Klugman, HDRO Director, and Francisco Rodriguez, HDRO Head of Research preceded discussions.
HDRO held a consultation with representatives of the national statistical agencies of countries that were not included in the 2010 Human Development Index due to the unavailability of one or more required HDI indicators, to explore ways to correct for these omissions in the future, in collaboration with the relevant international statistical agencies.
HDRO held further consultations with the UNSC on HDI methodology and data sources.
