The Climate Vulnerability Monitor is a comprehensive attempt to highlight vulnerabilities on a country-by-country basis. The Monitor uses the best available evidence and science of globally comparable information in order to establish reference points across countries and regions. The presentation will outline the methodology and data-points, and present key results, provide comparisons to the HDI, and discuss possible applications.
The Monitor’s analysis is built around four distinct climate impact areas: health impact, weather disasters, habitat loss, and economic stress. The adaptation performance review assesses over 50 key cost-effective adaptation measures that can be taken to reduce dangers and harm to communities across these main impact areas. It gives results at two points in time - 2010 and 2030 – demonstrating how vulnerability would evolve under climate changes expected over the next 20 years if measures are not taken to reduce vulnerabilities.

About the Speakers from Commons Consultants
Søren Peter Andreasen, Partner, was responsible for the production of the Climate Vulnerability Monitor. He previously led the production of the “Human Impact Report: Climate Change – The Anatomy of A Silent Crisis” in 2009. Søren advises governments and multilateral institutions on a range of global development issues. Prior to Commons Consultants, Søren was a co-founding partner of Dalberg Global Development Advisors and worked for the UN Secretariat and as a consultant with McKinsey & Company. Søren holds a Masters in Public Policy from Harvard University and an under-graduate degree in Political Science from University of Aarhus.
Jakob Mathias Wichmann, Associate Partner, was responsible for the framework and analysis in the Climate Vulnerability Monitor. He has particular expertise in building indices and rating systems and advising on strategies to improve performance based on such instruments. He also has extensive experience from research work in developing economies, especially post-conflict societies, such as Sudan, Angola, Burundi and Timor-Leste. Jakob previously worked as a Senior Manager at the research group Capacent-Epinion. He has consulted on several projects for the World Bank and served Danish NGOs DanChurchAid and Cooperative Centre Denmark. Jakob holds Master degrees in political science from University of Aarhus and political theory from University of Essex.
The authors of the Climate Vulnerability Monitor will join us via video conference from Copenhagen. Participants in New York can attend the event at our conference room, on the 12th floor of the FF building, at 304 East 45th Street.
