Rediscovering Agriculture for Human Development

The report seeks to analyse some of the salient features of agriculture and rural development in the country, and concludes that one of the root causes of rural poverty is women's lack of control over productive resources. the importance of land as a fundamental asset for agricultural and rural development is equaly highlighted in the Report. The Report emphasises the need for supporting favourable agricultural conditions, namely inputs, infrastructure, research and extension services as well as affordable credit for smallholder and medium scale farmers. It is argued that this will have a positive impact on the quality of life of the majority population who reside in the rural areas.
