This statistical booklet presents a comprehensive and accurate set of gender statistics revealing the government’s involvement in promoting gender justice and equality. The report can also serve as a great source of information for NGOs and academics interested in issues concerning gender equality and advancement of women. For example, the data presented in one chapter reveals an increase of participation of women in the economy. On the negative side, however, maternal mortality remains very high and there has been an increase in criminality, particularly among women. The booklet was produced by a team of experts, under the coordination of he National Commission for Statistics and is intended to be the first step in the general improvement of the Romanian statistics system in terms of its gender responsiveness.
