UN recommends Azerbaijan to lift factors preventing legal migration

Baku. Hafiz Heydarov – APA. Azerbaijan State Migration Service held a conference on the UNDP Human Development Report 2009, APA reports. Chief of the State Migration Service Arzu Rahimov spoke about the measures taken in the field of migration in Azerbaijan. He said the country’s economic development attracted more foreigners in Azerbaijan. He called on the foreigners arriving in the country to respect local legislation.

Then UN resident-coordinator in Azerbaijan Bruno Pueza made a report. He said Azerbaijan was 86th among 182 countries for human development indications based on last year figures. Azerbaijan was 97th among 179 countries in the Human Development Report 2008. The age of human life rose for 5 years and GDP rose for 4 times in 1995-2007.

The reports recommended to the government of Azerbaijan to ease official documentation process and to lift the factors preventing the legal migration.

According to the report, Armenia was 84th among 182 countries for human development index, Georgian – 89, Iran -88 and Ukraine -85.
