Towards an AIDS-Free Generation

The Report addresses the relationship between HIV/AIDS and poverty considering them primary development challenges in Botswana. Since the first reported AIDS case in 1895, HIV has spread very quickly. The report indicates that without adequate treatment and care, a third of the adult population could be dead in 8-12 years. The authors call for comprehensive prevention, treatment and development efforts to combat AIDS. As a direct result of the Report, the President of Botswana announced that the government would begin providing free access to anti-retroviral drugs for the 17 percent of the country's population that is estimated to be HIV positive.
