Política, políticas y desarrollo humano

The 2008 NHDR focuses on how the politics and the policies are important for human development in Uruguay. It analyses the political institutions (Executive, Parliament and Justice System), as well as the development-models applied in Uruguay, in order to determine their contributions to the welfare of citizens. The main message of the report can be summarized as follows: “politics matter to human development”. According to the study, high Uruguayan performance in terms of human development cannot be understood without considering its politic history, its policies and their making long process. The institutions, the quality of democracy and the political culture make a difference in Uruguay and clearly enhance its human development.
