National HDRs - an inclusive process and advocacy tool

HDRO Conference Room
18 mai 2011

Time:   12:30 – 2:00 pm

Note: The presentation will begin with a screening of the documentary "Voices of Tomorrow: Youth in Cyprus" (17 minutes) which highlights the participatory process that culminated in the launch of the HDR.

The first Human Development Report for Cyprus, entitled “Youth in Cyprus: Aspirations, Lifestyles and Empowerment” was launched in 2009 by UNDP Action for Cooperation and Trust, in cooperation with the University of Nicosia and the Cyprus Social and Economic Research Centre (KADEM). The Report highlights an urgent need to engage and empower Cypriot youth in the process of peace-building and reconciliation. The report was produced as part of a two-year initiative, the Cyprus Youth Dialogue Project, which engaged young people in an island-wide research and dialogue process. How can the report, the youth charter, and the documentary now be used as an advocacy tool for peace-building and reconciliation in Cyprus? There have been many developments and initiatives since the launch of the report and these will be discussed at the presentation.
