The report considers the following human development goals to be of particular importance for Georgia’s current situation: employment and reasonable incomes for all; a comprehensive system of social security; a pluralistic, but integrated society, ensuring peace and tolerance for ethnic and religious minorities; preservation of Georgia’s cultural heritage and creating conditions for its development; securing basic liberal rights and a democratic process of popular participation in public affairs; law and order; an acceptable natural as well as urban environment; a sustainable economy and related infrastructure; changing obsolete behavioral stereotypes that are currently hindering development and, finally, reducing the shadow economy. It is hoped that the general conclusions derived from the material presented in the report will serve as a basis for discussion of human development issues in Georgia. Année: 1996 |
