Human Development in Chile: Decentralization
Posted on: January 01, 1996
The main focus of the report is the decentralization process in Chile and its implications for the geographic equity of human development. The authors note a strong inequality among the Chilean regions and municipalities. A suggested solution is to further strengthen the decentralization process. The human development index was calculated for each of the 13 regions of the country and for the municipalities. In addition, a special ‘competitiveness index’ was designed and calculated for each region. This was carried out according to the international competitiveness index model.
