Regional Study on Human Development and Human Rights - Central Asia

This report focuses on the five new states of Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan), and draws some parallels between these states and Mongolia, although the latter enjoys a very distinct history. Central Asia is an area that does not divide nicely into regime successes and regime failures, either with regard to economic and social rights or as relates to civil and political rights. At the same time, though, it is possible to argue persuasively that some states have done better than have others.
